Combat Fatigue with Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors can help fight the feelings of fatigue by correcting spinal alignment, improving posture and lowering stress which increases overall body function and energy levels.

How does the spine play a role in the body’s overall energy levels?

Dr. Scott Gardner: The nervous system is made up of two components, the autonomic nervous system and the sympathetic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system impacts energy levels by regulating body functions like heart rate, metabolism, and digestion. And the sympathetic nervous system increases energy by releasing hormones that promote relaxation to conserve energy.

Can poor posture contribute to feelings of fatigue? And how can a chiropractor help improve posture?

Dr. Scott Gardner: Poor posture can directly cause fatigue because muscles actually have to work harder to support poor posture than good posture. Chiropractic can improve posture by realigning the spine or correcting misaligned vertebra that we call subluxation, strengthening muscles and teaching people how to do posture building exercises at home.

Are there any specific chiropractic adjustments or methods that are particularly effective for improving energy levels?

Dr. Scott Gardner: All the chiropractic techniques work. It’s a matter of figuring out which recipe or combination of these techniques work for the individual, and over time, tweaking and modifying as the person is improving.

Are there certain lifestyle factors, like stress and sleep issues, that chiropractic care can help with to reduce fatigue?

Dr. Scott Gardner: There are several benefits to regular chiropractic care, such as less pain or no pain, increased movement, decreased inflammation, boosting immunity, and increasing athletic performance. But the two that are personally at the top of my list are stress reduction by promoting relaxation and increasing overall health and wellness, and improve sleep quality by relieving pain and improve posture.

For someone considering chiropractic care to improve their energy, what should they expect during their first visit?

Dr. Scott Gardner: The first visit starts with a preliminary screening to determine if there’s even a chance that subluxation is at the root of the problem. That includes a visual posture evaluation and palpation of the spine, or checking for alignment, inflammation, and muscle tone. If either of these tests show us positive findings, then we have a conversation about their chief complaint.

And if we confirm that there is subluxation to be at the root of a problem, then we do a computerized posture evaluation and digital X-rays to determine the severity. After this information is gathered, we can give specific recommendations so the person will know how long it will take to fix, how often they would need to come in, and what their responsibility would be.
